Finally, I contacted Auran's help desk for assistance. Auran responded within 24 hours, but their response was not what I waned to see. I was given links to two service packs, along with instructions on how to install them.
Their procedures instructed me to shut down all applications normal for updates , including my virus protection not normal! Now, I rely on my computers to make a living, and I'm sure as heck not going to trust their security to an outfit whose product is so poorly designed that it requires such drastic measures to run correctly.
Bottom Line: It is possible that Auran's service packs would install just fine, but I'm not willing to take that chance, so I'm out the cost of the software and a lot of disappointment.
My advice is proceed cautiously when considering this product! My son needed a simulator that was capatible with Thomas and Friends content. Once he had everything set up, it ran beautifully. I even had fun running a couple of train scenarios myself. It takes time to learn, but it is well worth it.
Far cry from Miscrosoft. One person found this helpful. In a word I was blown away with the variety of buildings, trains, scenery, and complete control this game hands out. Build until you can't build any more or until you're computer fries itself! You are limited only by your imagination. Can I get a valid serial number for this game.

Many glitches and problems with layouts that you can use as soon as you start off, some of the locomotives have problems with their commands. However this game is a lot more fun with mods. A friend of mine has this game and it has a whole bunch of locomotives as well as rolling stock that do not come with the base game.
Not only that but there are also mods that have new command settings which work a ton better than the stock ones. I do recommend building a layout from scratch as it allows you to make sure there are no glitches with scenery objects being out of place or even in the path of your train. Auran has a section on their website that has a large selection of modifications for the game.
New locomotives, scenery, ect. While the base game is pretty bad the mods more than make up for the glitches. OK but had a few issues with this. Probably my computer.
Still I had some fun with it. I confess to trying to relive the old days of Lionel trains and the later days of steam of the 50's. I have pretty much all of the TrainZ series, and I am late in reviewing this version since I have already upgraded to the version.
There are considerable similarities between the two, and I have loaded my favorite layout into version without too much effort and they function pretty much the same.
The version was a major step up from the version, but stands well on its own. If you must have the best graphics, wind-blown trees, and more functionality, get the Many of us "TrainZ" people are frustrated by Auran's method of program protection which always seems to be an attack on those who own products legally, so don't expect to be able to sell any old versions or even give them away. With that said, check the price between the two, and the power of your computer to help decide if the version is worth it.
I find that all TrainZ versions are extremely power hungry, so be prepared to have video cards and cpu's that exceed the recommended minimum or go crazy trying to watch jerky trains running around. In use I find it to be the very best of these type of simulations with many options, thousands of free item downloads, and a layout editor second to none. It allows you to completely build, run, edit, change weather, Etc. It is not for those "shootemups" requiring lightning reflexes or for those needing the rewards of more points or things to do, but is a wonderful way to use your creativity to any extent that pleases you.
